Sirsasana Yoga & How To Do Sirsasana

The name Sirsasana comes from Sanskrit, Sirsa means Head and Asana means Yoga Pose or Posture. It’s pronounced like shir-saa sh naa. It is also known as the Headstand Yoga Pose. Which is really important in yoga postures. In the head position, the weight of the whole body is balanced on the head.

The nickname Sirsasana is the “King of All Asanas” due to its various health benefits. However, this yoga pose must be done very carefully. We recommend beginners to start supporting the walls with the following steps. Regular practice will make you an expert in this pose.

Steps To Do Sirsasana

  • First, go to child’s pose (balasana) from this pose, grab your elbows and anchor your fingers to form an equilateral triangle.
  • Now bring your crown from your head to the mat on the floor and the back of your head touching your hands. (What you locked in the previous step, support your head with your hands).
  • Try to straighten your legs and slowly move them towards your head. Your back must be straight.
  • Now bend your knees and keep your heels close to your buttocks.
  • Then slowly straighten your legs at a 90 degree angle.
  • Breathe normally without effort.
  • Hold the position as much as possible.
  • Now bend your knees gently and keep your heels close to your buttocks and come into the child’s position.
