Adho Mukha Svanasana consists of Sanskrit words; where the meaning of Adho means “Down” Mukha means “Face”, Svana means “Dog” and the meaning of Asana is Seat or Posture. This posture is very similar to the downward position of the dog, so this Asana is called the Adho Mukha Svanasana.
Reverse this asana pose and walk deep on the mat with your hands and feet pressed to the floor. During this process, the hips are lifted up into the air. The body frames a long-term pyramidal triangle shape.
How To Do Adho Mukha Svanasana
- Stand on four legs so that your body forms a table-like structure.
- Exhale and slowly raise your hips and straighten your elbows and knees. You need to make sure that your body makes the letter “V” upside down.
- Your hands should be level with your shoulders and your feet should be in line with your hips. Make sure your toes point outward.
- Now press your hands on the floor and extend your neck. Your ears should touch your inner arms and you should keep your eyes on your navel.
- Hold for a few seconds, then bend your knees and return to the table position.
