Home Remedies To Treat Kidney Stones

What Are Kidney Stones?

Kidney stones are solid mass made of small crystals. One or more stones may be present in the kidney or urinator at the same time. Stone formations may consist of calcium oxalate, phosphate or cystine. Stone formation occurs when the urine is high in certain crystalline substances. Stones must pass through the urinary tract to leave the body in what is known as kidney stone removal, which can be very painful.

Calcium deposits are the most common and can form when combined with phosphates or carbonates. But there are also calcium oxalate stones which provide nutrition in a variety of foods such as spinach and vitamin C supplements. These can recur in people with small bowel disease, increasing the risk of kidney stones.

Crystals can turn into stones for weeks or even months, so you may not have any symptoms until the stones move down the tubes called ureters, where urine enters your bladder. Therefore, it is very possible to have kidney stones without you noticing for the first time.

However, the main symptom is severe pain that starts and goes away suddenly. This acute pain can appear around the abdomen or one side of the back, and sometimes spreads to the limit. More advanced symptoms include abnormal urine or blood color in the secretions, tremors, fever, nausea, and vomiting.

Kidney stones are hard deposits found throughout the urinary system – from the bladder to the kidneys. Many factors can affect you, but genetic susceptibility and the amount of fluids you drink have a direct impact on the likelihood of developing kidney stones.

While oral medication can be used to treat it in most cases, dietary habits and changes can be adjusted to try to treat kidney stones naturally. Here are some Home Remedies to cure kidney stones.

1. Water

Dehydration is the main cause of kidney stones. Less water will concentrate the urine and allow more minerals and salts to build up. Drinking more water, at least eight glasses will keep the body hydrated and also help the growth of kidney stones.

2. Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple cider vinegar contains citric acid, which helps dissolve calcium-rich kidney stones. The concentration is made by mixing some apple cider vinegar in a glass of water and can be consumed before meals. Many people swear by it as a remedy for kidney stones.

3. Lemon Juice

Citrate is responsible for breaking down kidney stones by depositing calcium. Lemon juice is high in citrate, so it is a good remedy for kidney stones. Drinking lemon juice with warm water on an empty stomach is very beneficial. Natural lemon juice is preferred because the bottled version has a more sweet taste, which increases kidney stones.

4. Basil

Basil or tulsi has high amounts of acetic acid, another component that helps dissolve calcium-based kidney stones. Basil leaves are known to help balance uric acid. Some even believe that basil juice will eventually expel kidney stones.

5. Pomegranate Juice

This is another home remedy that many people choose. Every day, a glass of pomegranate juice can do wonders for your kidney stones. The astringent properties of pomegranate make it an ideal remedy.

6. Kidney Beans

As the name suggests, kidney beans are beneficial if you have kidney stone problems. They are high in magnesium, a mineral that helps treat kidney stones. Boil peanuts until tender and use the water as a broth.

7. Celery

Celery is like the elixir of life while it comes to kidney stones. It helps increase urine production and is a superfood when it comes to kidney health. You can put it in soups or mix it with your juices. Celery seeds also prevent the formation of kidney stones if consumed regularly.

8. Dietary Change

A Diet high in processed foods, colas, and energy drinks is primarily responsible for kidney stones. Most of these drinks are highly diuretic and thus increase your dehydration. Alcohol consumption should also be avoided if you have kidney problems. Switching to natural foods has been shown to improve kidney health, largely due to the elemental fiber and vitamin and mineral deficiencies that fruits and vegetables carry.
