Virabhadra is a mythological figure created by Lord Shiva and this pose takes its name from there. Virabhadrasana I is an asana that honors the achievements of a legendary warrior. That is why it is also called Warrior Pose 1. This asana is considered to be one of the most beautiful poses in yoga and adds a lot of beauty to the practice.
How To Do Warrior I Pose/Virabhadrasana 1
- Stand straight and spread your legs about three to four feet. Your right foot should be forward and left-handed.
- Now rotate your right leg 90 degrees outward and 15 degrees to the left.Make sure the heel of your right foot is aligned with the center of your left foot.
- Raise your arms to the sides until they reach your shoulder height. Your arms should be parallel to the floor and palms facing upwards.
- Exhale and bend your right knee so that your knee and ankle are parallel. check your knees are not in front of your ankles.
- Now shift your gaze to the right.
- As you move into the pose, continue to straighten your arms and place your palms above your head. Look at the palm of your hand. Lower your pelvis slowly.
- Hold the pose with the same determination as a warrior and put a smile on your face. Breathe normally and steadily descends.
- Take a breath and get up.
- Exhale and slowly lower your hands from the side.
- Repeat this pose on the left side with your left foot in front and your right leg behind.
