6 Home Remedies To Cure Your Sore Throat

Sore Throat is one of the most common health complaints, especially in winter. They are usually caused by infections such as colds, flu, and inflammation, and if they are painful enough, they often go away within a week.

Can’t make it a week? Find relief for your sore throat with this helpful remedy now.

1. Salt Water : Although salt water does not provide instant relief, it is still an effective way to kill bacteria while breaking up phlegm and relieving pain. Just add half a teaspoon of salt and 8 ounces of warm water and gargle.

2. Honey : “Honey is one of the best sore throat remedies, because of its natural antibacterial properties that allow it to act as a wound healer. Honey can also kill bacteria and fight viral infections”.

If you have a severe cough in addition to a sore throat, honey can also work as an effective cough suppressant. Mix two tablespoons of honey with a glass of heated water or tea and mix well. Drink as many times as a day as needed.

3. Lemon : Similar to salt water and honey, lemon is great for a sore throat because it can help break up phlegm and relieve pain. In addition, lemons are full of vitamin C, which stimulates the immune system and gives it more strength to fight off your infection. Mix a teaspoon of lemon juice in a glass of warm water and drink it for quick relief.

4. Hot Sauce : It may sound strange to use hot sauce to soothe a sore throat, but this spice has been shown to relieve sore throats. The warm sauce is made from peppers that are high in capsaicin, which can be used to help fight inflammation and relieve pain. So, even if it burns at first, gargling a few drops of warm sauce in a glass of warm water is a great remedy for a sore throat.

5. Tea : There are many types of herbal teas that you can try to quickly relieve a sore throat. Clove tea and green tea contain antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties to help fight infection while providing relief. Raspberry, chamomile, and mint teas are all great options for pain relief and reducing inflammation. Chamomile tea can also act as a natural lubricant. So if your voice is hoarse and you have trouble speaking, this may be your best option. In addition, mint tea can naturally soothe the throat and relieve pain. Choosing the best tea for your sore throat will also help control caffeine levels.

“Rest is necessary when you’re recovering from an illness. When you’re ready for bed, it’s probably best to drink decaffeinated tea.”

6. Humidifier : If you’ve noticed an increase in sore throats this season, it may be time to invest in a moisturizer. Dry air, especially during harsh winter days, can be the cause of a sore throat. A humidifier keeps the air moist and clears your sinuses. Add a tablespoon or two of gum or hydrogen peroxide solution for added relief.
