Ayurvedic Home Remedies – Home Kitchen Ingredients

Most diseases are caused by poor eating habits and lifestyle, along with heredity and other reasons. Ayurveda is an evolutionary system in India which tries to establish harmony between man and nature through all methods of diagnosis, prevention and treatment.

Powerful synthetic drugs make countless Known & unknown side effects make you sometimes more dangerous than the disease itself. Unlike Ayurveda, it is mainly a gentle healing method that is taught based on herbs and nutrients. Many of the most commonly used drugs are easy, quickly available and can be prepared at home.

Below are some simple recipes made from ingredients readily available in and around the kitchen. This preparation is very effective for simple problems such as coughs, colds, digestion, etc. For chronic problems such as diabetes, joint pain, skin diseases, this drug can also be used together with other medication.

General Instructions

  • Measurements – 5 gms = 1 Full teaspoon and 5 ml = 1 Full teaspoon.
  • This preparation is for mild and chronic diseases. If the patient does not improve within 2-3 days of treatment, he can see the nearest doctor.
  • The dosage indicated is for adults. In children, half or a quarter of this adult dose can be used.
  •  Dosage can be adjusted with small changes depending on tolerance and desire.
  • This supplement can be used regularly for days. But in the case of an unpleasant drug it should be stopped immediately.
  • A decoction should be made by boiling the ground medicine/coarse powder in four parts of water and reducing it to a quarter.
  • Juice should be made by squeezing/grinding in a fresh medicinal mixture, perhaps with a small amount of water, and the juice should be squeezed through a clean cloth.
  • Paste should be made by crushing/ grinding the drug very finely with the desired liquid if necessary. Generally foods that are too hot, salty, cold, sour, fried canned, heavy, indigestible, too cold & hot, soft foods and foods that are not good for health should be avoided.
  • Irregular eating habits, sleep and a sedentary lifestyle are the main possible causes of disease.
  • Too much tea, coffee, should be avoided. Tobacco, alcohol and drugs should not be used.
  • Mental stress should be overcome through recreation such as meditation, prayer, exercise, exercise, yoga, and other activities of individual choice.

1. TULSI (Ocimum sanctum, Tulasi)

Uses Of Tulsi

  • Cough / cold – 5-10 ml of juice twice or thrice a day with honey.
  • Fever – 30 ml Decoction of a handful of leaves & 5 GM Dhania three times. Skin allergies – 5-10 ml of juice two or three times a day.
  • Indigestion / loss of appetite – 5-10 ml of juice twice or thrice a day.
  • Greying of hair – coconut oil treated with tulsi juice for regular use.
  • Wound/Ulcer – Juice mixed with honey & Haldi powder for use.
  • Earache – 2-3 drops of lukewarm 2 times a day.

2. SAUNF (Foeniculum vulgare Mill., Shatapushpa)

Fennel seeds

  • Indigestion – 3-5 grams Powder with fried jeera powder and rock salt with warm water three times a day.
  • Diarrhea / dysentery – 3-5 gms powder with buttermilk 3-4 times a day.
  • Stomach Pain – 3-5 gms of powder with buttermilk 3-4 times a day.
  • Bad breath – A small amount should be chewed after eating.
  • Loss of appetite – 3-5 gms of roasted saunf powder with buttermilk, a pinch of ground pepper & salt twice daily.

3. PIPPALI (Piper longum Linn., Pippali)

Piper Longum

  • Indigestion – 2 gms of powder well twice a day before meals.
  • Colds / coughs – 2 gms of powder with honey three times a day in divided doses. 10-20ml. Boil with 2-3 gms of Pippali powder, ginger, black pepper with sugar or honey 2-3 times a day.
  • Pyorrhea – pippali decoction with honey & ghee to give in the morning and before bed.
  • Diarrhea – mix 2-3 gms of powder in 1 liter of buttermilk and divide into 4 parts evenly. Take 1 part 6 hours.
  • Cold with fever – 2 gms of powder with honey twice a day.

4. PYAJ (Allium cepa Linn., Palandu)

Onion

Garlic varieties are considered the best.

 

  • Sunstroke – Use lots of onions to prevent stroke.
  • Colds/Coughs – Children should be given a decoction with a piece of brown sugar three times a day.
  • Dysentery – Garlic, chopped and fried, and ghee should be eaten with rice.

5. KALIMIRACH (Piper nigrum Linn., Maricha)

Blackpepper

  • Cough – 1 GM Seed powder with ghee and honey twice a day.
  • Skin diseases – Some amount of powder with coconut oil for local application.
  • Hoarseness of voice – 1-2 GMS Seed powder fried with ghee Keep in your mouth twice a day.
  • Hiccups – 1-2 GM. Seed powder with sugar twice a day.
  • Indigestion – A pinch of powder by a piece from crushed ginger & rock salt should be taken before eating.
  • Loss of appetite – A pinch of powder with 2 teaspoons of lime juice with water V2 hours before meals.
  • Bleeding gums / tartar / bad breath – A pinch of powder mixed with honey should be applied to the gums twice a day.

6. DHANIA (Linn’s sativum riddle, Dhanyaka)

Coriander

  • Cold / Cough – 20 ml Decoction made from 5 GM. large powder with sugar and turmeric powder three times a day or use Dhania powder as herbal tea every morning to prevent colds, coughs & digestive problems.
  • Intestinal worms – 3-5 gms of Powder with jaggery twice a day for 5 days.
  • Sunstroke/ dehydration – 20 ml A decoction of coarse powder with sugar and a pinch of salt is often prepared.
  • Indigestion – 20 ml A decoction is prepared from 5 gms. coarse powder with a pinch of ginger powder three times a day.
  • Fever – 20 ml decoction of 5 gms powder with sugar 3-4 times a Day.

7. Karela (Momordica charantin Linn., Karavellaka)

Bitter Gourd

  • Indigestion – 5-10 ml of fruit juice twice a day.
  • Diabetes – 1-3 GMS Powder seeds with water twice a day.
  • Loss of appetite – 5-10 ml of juice with buttermilk 1-2 times.
  • Skin diseases – 5-10 ml of juice every morning on an empty stomach.
  • Intestinal worms – 10 ml of juice with brown sugar in the morning for 3 days.
  • Acne – 5-10 ml of juice on an empty stomach once a day.

8. LAHSUN (Allium sativum Linn., Rasona)

Lahsun

  • Earache – 2-4 drops of warm fresh juice to instill in the ear twice a day (do not use when exhausted). or a small paste cooked in coconut oil or mustard should be poured into the ear 2-3 times a day.
  • Flatulence – 6 ml of juice with honey twice a day.
  • Cough/cold – Crushed bulb boiled in water should be drunk with sugar.
  • Joint pain – 5 GM paste from tubers with honey or with food twice a day. The warm paste is mixed and all the oil should be applied over the joints.

9. Laung (Syzygium aromaticum (L.) Merr & Perry, Lavanga)

Cloves

  • Cough – for frequent chewing or 1 g of powder with honey 2-3 times in divided doses. 20 ml of warm decotion made from 1 gm of clove 3-4 times a day. This is a great remedy for dry coughs and productive coughs.
  • Cold/ Hiccough – 1-2 GM of Powder with honey in three divided doses.
  • Indigestion – 1-2 GM powder with warm water.
  • Toothache – Bruised gums should be kept in decaying teeth.
  • Bad breath – Small pieces should be chewed frequently.
  • Earache – Warm coconut oil made by boiling powdered laung must be filled in the ear twice.

10. MADHU (Honey) It is often prescribed by Ayurvedic doctors as a vehicle with treatment, especially for respiratory ailments.

Madhu

  • Obesity – In the morning a teaspoon with a glass of water.
  • Loss of appetite – Three to four times a day with a pinch of pepper powder.
  • Cough – With a pinch of laung three times four times.
  • Wounds/Ulcer/Bum – Honey and ghee should be mixed and applied topically.
  • Pyorrhea / (bleeding gums) – Bring a mixture of ginger, pepper, Rock salt, honey & ghee and chewing gum twice daily.
  • Face pack – Applying honey gives glow to the skin.

11. METHI (Trigonellafoenum-graecum Linn., Methika)

Fenugreek

  • Diabetes – 2 Gms Of powder with milk twice daily.
  • Body pain – 2 grams. Powder mixed with 2 gm. Jeera powder with warm milk and sugar twice daily.
  • Lactation(To increase mother’s milk)- 5 gm Of Powder with milk and sugar in the morning.
  • Scalp – The scalp should be massaged with a paste mixed with water 1/2 hours before bathing. Coconut oil stewed with methi powder should be used regularly. Using methi paste works like a good hair conditioner.

12. Adrak / Sonth
Zingiber officinale Rose, Common name: Ardraka / Sunthi

Ginger

  • Indigestion: 5 grams. Crush the rhizomes with salt or brown sugar twice a day before meals.
  • Earache: 2-4 drops of fresh warm juice to enter the ear (do not use if exhausted)
    Tone of voice: 1-3 GM. Powder from dried rhizomes with honey in three divided doses.
  • Aches and pains: 10-20 ml A decoction is prepared from 2 g of dried rhizome twice a day.
  • Colds / Coughs: 2-5 grams. Dried rhizome powder with jaggery in divided doses three times a day. 10ml. Boiling a piece of ginger prepared every morning prevents repeated bouts of flu.
  • Headache: Apply hot paste to the forehead up to 3-4 times a day.
  • Stomach ache: 5 ml of juice in a glass of buttermilk with lemon and salt.

13. Ajvain
Trachyspremum ammi Common names: Spragne, Yavani

Carom

  • Piles – 1 gram. powder and 1 gram. Black salt with buttermilk twice daily.
  • Painful menses – 1-2 GM. Powder the seeds with warm milk three times a day for 2-3 days
  • Urticaria (skin allergy) – 1-2 GM. Powder the seeds with water twice a day.
  • Stomach pain – 1 gram. Powder two or three times with warm water.
  • Bloating (gas) – 2 gms. Ajvain powder with the same amount of sauna powder as warm water.
  • Sinusitis – hot paste should be applied in the morning over bare head & slightly under eyes
  • Nasal congestion – 1-2 gms of powder should be put in steam water and the steam should be inhaled; 2-3 times a day.
  • Loss of appetite – 1 gm Powder with warm water 1/2 hour before meals.

14. Anar
Punica granatum Linn., Common name: Dadima
This is a very nutritious fruit that is suitable for everyone and can be used in the diet in any disease conditions.

Pomegranate

  • Indigestion – 10 ml Fruit juice, 1 gram. fried black salt or powdered jira with honey or sugar to keep in your mouth for a while before eating.
  • Bleeding piles – 10 ml Fruit juice with sugar twice a day. or 10gp. Powder from dried fruit peels with the same amount of sugar twice a day.
  • Diahhoria / dysentery – 10 ml Decoction of fruit peel three times a day. You can eat a lot of fruit.
  • Acidification – 10 ml of fruit juice twice a day. The fruit is also edible.
  • Bad breath – Gargle 3-4 times a day with a hot decoction of skin of the fruit.
  • Acne- The pimple seed paste should be applied to the affected area twice a day.

15. Amla
Emblica officinalis Gaertn., Common name: Amalaki

Indian Gooseberry

  • For General Health – Regular use of amla is for nutrition and boosts good health.
  • Acidification / peptic ulcer / constipation – 3-5 gm. Serve the fruit bowl with milk twice a day. or 10-20ml. Fruit juice twice a day. or 3-5 GM Drizzle the rind with milk twice a day (raw amla can also be eaten).
  • Stress – External application 25-50 gms. ground from the rind and buttermilk while stirring.
  • Diabetes – 10-20 ml Fruit juice with 10-20 ml Juice from fresh rhizomes of Haldi twice daily.
  • Greying of hair / hair loss / dandruff – fruit peel soaked in water overnight for application to the scalp two hours before bathing or a paste made from fruit peels should be applied two hours before bathing. Eating 1-2 fresh fruits every morning prevents hair loss and early greying..
  • Bleeding gums – The fine powder should be gently massaged into the gums twice a day after regular cleaning.

16. Dalchini
Cinnamomum zeylanicum Blume, common name: Tvak
This commonly used spice has good digestion and its pleasant aroma has a calming effect on the mind.

Cinnamon

  • Indigestion – 2 gms. Powder the bowl with water twice a day.
  • Loss of appetite – 2 grams. Equal parts Dalchini and Ajvain powder to knead in three divided doses before meals.
  • Vomiting – 1-2 gms. Powder with honey in divided doses three times a day.
  • Tension headaches – rub water on a rough surface and apply to the head.
  • Psychological stress – Its aroma has a calming effect. Shredded pieces can be stored in a handkerchief or near a pillow.
  • Dry Cough – Chewing controls throat irritation and helps dry coughs.

17. Jeera
Cuminum cyminum Linn., Common name: Jiraka

Cumin

  • Indigestion – 3-6 grams. Fried jeera powder and rock salt with warm water three times a day.
  • Diarrhea / dysentery – 1-2 gms. Fried jeera powder with 250 ml. Buttermilk four times a day.
  • Acidification – 5-10 GMS. Ghee cooked with jeera should be taken with meals with rice.
  • Skin Diseases – 1-2 GMS. Fry powdered jeera with milk twice a day.
  • Cold – hot decoction 2 gms. jeera, 5 grams. Dhania, 1 GM. Haldi, 1 GM. Methi powder and a pinch of pepper should be taken with honey/sugar with lemon two or three times.
  • Cough – Either a decoction as mentioned above or buying some whole grains will often help with dry coughs and productive coughs.

18. Hing
Ferula Narthex Boiss., Common name: HinguAsafoetidaUsing Hinges in your daily diet is good for digestion and related disorders. It is best to fry a little ghee before use.

  • Stomach pain – stir and dissolve in water and continuously around the navel. This is especially helpful for children or babies with stomach ache. 1 GM Fry in ghee with buttermilk twice a day.
  • Toothache – Keep frying Hing in carious teeth.
  • Loss of appetite – A pinch of fried hinges along with ghee & a piece of mashed adrak should be taken before meals with buttermilk.

19. Jaiphal
Myristica fragrans Houtt., Common name: Jatiphala

Nutmeg

  • Diarrhea in children – Rub a pinch of powder or fruit on a clean surface with milk or water 3-4 times a day.
  • Irritability – If the child is restless and irritable, 1-2 pinches of powder with milk are used as a mild sedative. It can be taken 3-4 times a day.
  • Black pigmentation – Black pigmentation on the face is a common complaint in women, especially at the age of menopause. Jayphal cooked in milk and applied to such areas helps a lot.
  • Stomach Pain – When sick from diarrhea is 2 GM. Powder along with warm water should be taken 4-5 times a day. It reduces intestinal motility by relieving pain.

20. Ghee
Common name: Clarified Butter

Clarified Butter
Ghee is referred to as the vehicle for a number of remedies in the Ayurvedic system. Proper use of ghee is very good for physical and mental health.

  • Ulcer/wounds/Bums – Often used on the sore.
  • Loss of appetite – Using hanging powder and jeera with food.
  • Memory – Daily use of ghee in children improves memory.
  • Constipation – 5 ml of Ghee in a cup of warm milk should be taken with sugar before going to bed.

21. Haldi
Curcuma longa Linn., Common name: Haridra

Turmeric

  • Diabetes – 10 ml of fresh juice with 10 ml of amla juice twice a day.
  • Acne – Apply the paste to the affected area twice a day. Using Haldi with water, milk or cream on the face gives skin a glow and removes unwanted hair with regular use.
  • Cold – 2 gms Powder along with warm milk and sugar twice a day. Decoction 1 gm Haldi powder or use of Haldi in herbal teas prevents allergy problems.
  • Wounds / ulcers / skin diseases – To wash with a decoction of Haldi & paste of Haldi should be applied. A paste made by mixing ghee/coconut oil should be applied to the affected area.
  • Skin allergies – 1-3 grams of powder should be taken twice a day with jaggery.

22. Elaichi
Elettaria cardomomum Maton, common name: Ela

Green Cardamom

  • Hiccough – Frequent chewing of 1-2 pieces (no more than 4 / day).
  • Vomiting – 250-500 gms. The powdered seeds are fried in ghee with honey three times a day.
  • Bad breath – 1-2 seeds for frequent chewing (no more than 4 / day).
  • Diarrhea / Vomiting – Elaichi Skin Ash 2 GMS 4-5 times a day with some quantity of honey.
  • Cold – 20 ml Decoction prepared from 5 GMS. Dhania, 1 gram of methi seeds, little cumin powder should be taken 2-3 times a day.
  • Cough – A Small Of Elaichi powder with a teaspoon of honey 3-4 times a day. Also, chewing Elaichi (no more than 3 per day) often helps for both dry and productive coughs.

23. NARIYAL (Cocos nucifera Linn., Narikela)

Coconut

  • Acidification – Soft coconut water twice a day.
  • Kidney Stones – Soft coconut water twice a day.
  • Wounds / ulcers / burns – The oil must be applied frequently.
  • Dehydration – Soft coconut water should be consumed frequently.
  • Hairfall – Coconut oil which has been treated with methi powder and amla powder should be used regularly.
  • Sunstroke – Soft coconut water should be consumed frequently.

24. NEEM (Azadirachta indica A. juss., Neem)

Azadirachta Indica

  • Skin diseases – 10 ml of leaf juice with honey twice a day.
  • Wounds/Ulcers – Warm application of a paste made from the leaves to the sore.
  • Intestinal worms – 20 ml of Decoction from a hand full of leaves should be left on an empty stomach for three days.
  • Loss of appetite – 20 ml of a Decoction of hand filled leaves should be given on an empty stomach for three days.
  • Dandruff / ringworm – A Decoction of a handful of leaves should be applied to the scalp an hour before bathing.

25. NIMBU (Citrus Limon Linn., Nimbu)

Lemon

  • Indigestion – 5-10 ml of juice with a pinch of salt and pepper before meals.
  • Dehydration/Sunstroke – A squeezed nimbu and a glass of water mixed with salt and sugar.
  • Bleeding Gums – The skin of the fruit should be pressed and rubbed on the gums twice a day.
  • Loss of appetite – 5 ml Before eating, squeeze with salt and a little pepper.
  • Hair loss – coconut oil processed with fruit peel, dried & powdered.
  • Vomiting – 5-10 ml of juice mixed with water, sugar and a pinch of salt often in small quantities.
