Chakrasana Yoga & Its Health Benefits

The name “Chakrasana” comes from the Sanskrit word “Chakra” means Wheel, and the meaning of Asana is “Posture” or “Seat”. Chakrasana or wheel position is a backward curved yoga asana. This asana gives flexibility to the spine. It is called Chakrasana because the body takes an almost radial, semicircular position while performing this asana.

Steps To Do Chakrasana

  • Lie on your back with your legs apart, bend your knees, and place your feet on the floor close to your body.
  • Now place your palms under your shoulders so that your fingers are pointing toward your shoulders and your elbows are shoulder width apart.
  • Inhale and press your palms firmly against the floor.
  • Raise your shoulders and elbows firmly to the floor.
  • Your feet should be pressed firmly against the ground.
  • Inhale and lift your hips.
  • The spine should be rolled so that it becomes a semicircular arch or wheel.
  • Extend your arms and legs as much as possible so that your hips and chest can be pushed up.
  • keep this pose for at least 15-30 seconds.
  • To get back to the original, bend your elbows to lower your head and shoulders to the floor.
  • Then bend your knees and bring your spine and hips back to the floor and relax.
