Virasana – Hero Pose, How To Do The Virasana And Its Benefits

Virasana Yoga & How To Do Virasana

The word “Vira” comes from a Sanskrit word. In Sanskrit, the meaning of “Vira” is Hero or Warrior; and Asana means Pose, Posture or Sitting. Virasana or Hero’s Pose increases the flexibility of your legs by straightening your knees, hips, ankles and feet. If you can’t sit on the floor, use a support such as a blanket or stool. Be careful not to pull on your knees during the exercise.

How To Do Virasana

  • First knee down, at this point parallel to the circumference of the hips.
  • Move a little along the waist belt together with you on the floor.
  • Bend forward and use your hands to push out the plump part of the calf.
  • Sit on the floor between your legs and exhale.
  • Place your hands on your hips, palms facing down, just near the knees.
  • Now relax your torso and shoulders, your spine should be straight and high.
  • The crown of your head should face the ceiling and look straight ahead.
  • During the process, assume that you are a hero or warrior who sits tall and proud.
  • Hold this pose for 30 seconds to one minute.
  • Breathe normally during the process.
  • Then release the pressure from your feet, ankles, and knees, that time shake your legs.
