Adi Mudra Meaning – First Gesture
The Sanskrit term “Adi” means the First and “Mudra” means Seal or Gesture. Adi Mudra takes its name from the position of the fetus’s hand in the womb. It is so named because this mudra is the first hand gesture we can do as humans after birth.
Steps To Do Adi Mudra
- When sitting, place your palms on your thighs or knees. While standing, extend your arms outward slightly so that there is only a small amount of space between your hands and your thighs.
- Now press your thumbs against the palms and touch the joints of your little fingers on the palms with the tips of your thumbs on both hands.
- Then connect them with the other fingers (closing the gaps between them) and go up inside to circle your thumbs and form a fist.
- Maintain light pressure on your fists, evenly across your palms and across your fingers. However, don’t press too hard or injure your thumb.
- Of course, you will be doing mudras on both hands at the same time.
