Padahastasana Yoga & How To Do Padahastasana

Padahastasana is a stretch. There are lots of stretches in your hamstrings and calves. It also stretches in the lower back. Pada means Feet and Hast means Hands, asana means being in a posture that allows you to stay firm and comfortable for longer. Hence, Padahastasana is a posture in which the feet are touched by the hands. Padahastasana is also used in the practice of Suryanamaskara. Suryanamaskara is also known as Sunsalutation. Padahastasana is the second and eleventh of the twelve steps of Suryanamaskara.

Steps To Do Padahastasana

  • Stand straight and bend your body forward.
  • Let your arms touch the ground. If it’s difficult, raise your hands as far as you can without straining yourself. Exhale as you move forward.
  • Bring the trunk to the feet. Try to hold your knees with your forehead. This requires a lot of flexibility. In the early stages, take it only as far as it can go.
  • As part of the Surya Namaskara, mantras can be chanted while performing this asana. Padahastasana is performed as the 3rd and 10th poses. The mantra for the chanting is as follows: During the 10th pose, chant “Om Savitre Namaha”. It means greetings for a kind mother.
  • During the 3rd pose, sing “Om Suryaya Namaha”. It means greetings to the sun god Surya or whoever induces this activity.

  • People suffering from back pain should not practice the padahastasana.
  • This should not be done if you have boils.
  • Exercising is prohibited for people with heart problems.
  • Those with high blood pressure should not exercise.
  • Don’t try too hard. Increase exercise gradually.
