The name Vayu Mudra comes from the Sanskrit “Vayu” which means “Air” and “Mudra” which means Pose or Gesture. It falls into the category of basic mudras because they are so easy to make. The purpose of this mudra is to get rid of the excess air element in the body in order to avoid various health problems. By placing the thumb (Fire element) on the index finger (air element) is pressed. Like Ayurveda, this Mudra can treat Vata Dosha in the body.
Steps To Do Vayu Mudra
- First, bend your index finger at the base of the thumb and press down on the second phalanx with your thumb, keeping the other fingers straight.
- This mudra should be performed with both hands and palms facing up.
- For best results, practice this mudra for 45 minutes (one stretch) or 10-15 minutes (three sessions) every day.
